Congratulations to the Winners of the 16th Annual AIMIA Awards!
Australia’s Leading Digital Talent Celebrated in Melbourne
SYDNEY, Australia – 5 March 2010 – The Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA), Australia’s peak industry body for digital and interactive content, has honoured the 25 winners of its 16th Annual AIMIA awards at a glitzy Melbourne ceremony, bringing together over 400 industry leaders, including Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
Host Mikey Robbins and performance group Vospertron kept the crowd entertained and speeches were delivered by Senator Conroy, AIMIA president Guy Gadney and AIMIA CEO John Butterworth.
Guy Gadney used his speech to highlight the way digital is changing the world around us. “What excites me about our digital industry is that it forces us to think differently about the world we operate in. All of us here tonight, we are the leaders of digital media in Australia. We may not think we are, but it is our responsibility to partner with traditional companies to bring them on a transformational journey. It is our responsibility to build the bridges between old business models and new audiences.”
The ‘Amys’ continue to expand with 25 categories represented in 2010 ranging from retail to government, sport to content for children. The 16th Annual AIMIA Awards feature a record number of categories with three new accolades: Best Sport, Best Online Video and People’s Choice.
John Butterworth, AIMIA CEO praised the success of the Australian Digital community. “Every year, more and more Aussie digital companies are taking their products and services to the world, doing international deals and setting up shop in the US, China, the UK and Europe. We’re here tonight to recognise and celebrate the talent and efforts of those who are not only the leaders in our own market, but ever increasingly taking Australian digital know-how and can-do to the world.”
“And yet we seem to be doing all this despite our small market size, our geographic location and particularly our woeful broadband infrastructure, should make us a digital backwater. Looking around here tonight, clearly we’re not. And when our new National Broadband Network starts coming online, we’re going to be catapulted towards the head of the global digital class.”
Supporters of the AIMIA Awards include CommSec and MultiMedia Victoria, as well as Platinum Award Category Sponsors: BigPond, Microsoft, Tresscox and Gold category sponsors BBC.com, B&T, Enterprise Melbourne, New South Wales Department of State & Regional Development, Innovation and Business Skills Australia, I-Nex, KPMG, LaVolta, Mega, Melbourne IT, Spectrum Communications and Viocorp.
